Buying Our First House

First off, let me just say that buying a house was the WORST. The whole process. I'm pretty sure Steph will agree with me. It was our first time, so we had NO idea what to expect during the whole process. I mean, looking at houses was fun and all, but not for long. Seeing the first few houses was kind of fun. None of them were what we wanted, but that wasn't the frustrating part. Fast forward to about house 10 (Hermione House, I liked to call it because it was on Granger Street) and our first offer. Nope. The seller wouldn't accept our offer and that was the last of that house. We were a little sad, but the search continued.

We saw 15-20 houses, I would say. We fell in love with the cutest fixer upper. It was out of date and had SO much wallpaper, but we loved it. That's when we decided to put in an offer on that little brick ranch. Of course, we got out bid. Feeling very defeated, we continued to look at a couple more houses. We found one that had a lot of potential, but needed A LOT of work. Steph told me to have an open mind. I didn't. I hated it the moment we walked in. Good thing for me, it was out of our price range. For what they were asking and how much work it needed, we passed.

Very soon after, the day before Easter to be exact, we had an appointment to see another brick ranch very close to the area we wanted. Fell in love. Steph and I loved it. Was everything we wanted. All the big, important and expensive things were new, right in our price range, just needed a little bit of cosmetic love to make it ours. Not to mention the perfect fenced in yard for Stephanie. Oh and for Pippa, of course! Our offer was accepted and we could not have been more excited! We've had to jump through a couple of hurdles since then. However, the house is ours! We got the keys on May 8th and have been here since the 19th!

Our realtor, Paula, always told us to keep our heads up and to not be discouraged after every rejected offer or times we were outbid. She could not have been more right. That would be the number one thing I would say to anyone looking to buy a house in this market. The right house will come your way. All you have to do is wait. There were plenty of times I started to feel discouraged, and I'm positive Steph would agree with me. We feel so lucky to have had a realtor that really cared about us and where we ended up. Her kind words and positive attitude definitely helped us through the stress of the whole process.

Here's our beauty...
